Making a Dress Perfect For Autumn | Sewing with Thrifted Fabric | Fall Sewing Project 2021 | Sew with Me
I was SOOOO excited to use this fabric! I absolutely love it!! Even though the dress didn't turn out the way I had envisioned, I still love it just as much! In the words of Bob Ross, "It was a happy accident".
I really have to stop saying that projects "seem easy" or "seem pretty straight forward" - If I had a bingo card of my channel, those terms would be on it. BUT making mistakes isn't always the worst thing. In sewing it can be - especially sewing with thrifted fabrics because you aren't always lucky enough to have extra fabric for fixing sewing mistakes and you never have enough to start over (especially puffy sleeves!). But it also (as a self taught sewist) makes you learn how to adapt and think of solutions that are best for you. It also REALLY enforces you to notice things you missed and avoid making the same mistakes in the future. It wasn't really a mistake, it was an over sight - A BIG oversight. HOW did I not think about the top of the sleeve?? #blindedbythebow
After a few minor fixes (actually before probably) I can say with 100% confidence I will be wearing this dress for a loooong time! I am so happy with it!!
Patterns
Puffy Sleeves with Bows - Simplicity 8695 - 1930s Vintage
Corset Bodice - Butterick 5680 - Sweetheart neckline
Fabric - I'm pretty sure it's curtain-type fabric? I may be wrong. But it's beautiful, a bit heavy, feels like a light wool blend or it's pretending to have wool in it. It was $8.99- I actually saw similar looking fabric (pattern) in Schitt's Creek in the window in Moria and John's room ????
I hope you enjoyed my autumn dress video! Please like and subscribe - I post sewing videos every Tuesday (or Wednesday!)
